My Big Fat Greek Wedding

Time Out says

The BFG of the title is Greek-American Toula Portokalos (writer/star Vardalos), a dumpy 30-year-old Chicagoan whose still-single status is a source of great concern to patriarch Gus (Constantine) and wife Maria (Kazan). Can't she find a Greek man and make babies? Toula herself has no illusions about her prospects, but she finally musters the will to break away from the family restaurant where she's worked for years. She takes a computing course, lands a job in her aunt's travel agency, and - eureka! - in walks her Adonis (Corbett, from TV's Sex and the City). Problem is, he's a 'xeno' (foreigner) called Ian. As a sleeper box-office smash in the US, this has proved itself the most successful indie movie since The Blair Witch Project. Vardalos' semi-autobiographical script takes a light-hearted look (or swipe) at family ties, cultural difference and how love conquers all. The result feels a little over-egged at times and the love match lacks chemistry, but Ian's whistlestop induction into a different style of language, food, drink, dress and dancing allows a few good one-liners. Think big: big hair, big boobs, big frou-frou frocks - and a big heart.
