It’s a busy time for the high-end restaurant scene right now. The World’s 50 Best Restaurants just announced their picks for 2024, and last week, Lithuania finally got its first-ever Michelin guide.
But plenty of cities already have Michelin stars in abundance, and research conducted by Chef’s Pencil shows where in the world (which has a population of at least 500,000) has the most per person.
Claiming the top spot, with 100 Michelin-starred restaurants for its 1.46 million people (roughly 14,600 per person), is Kyoto.
Paris claims second place, with a whopping 122 Michelin-starred restaurants but across a larger population of 2.1 million people. Washington DC claims third, and Antwerp claims fourth.
The list is dominated by European countries, with nine of the top 14 cities located in the continent. However, San Francisco also makes the list, meaning the US has two entries, and Osaka means Japan is included twice, too.
