Plenty of us are trying to travel more sustainably, whether it’s putting more consideration into visiting green places or taking the train instead of a plane. And it’s only becoming more necessary – there are a tonne of destinations suffering from overtourism, so we gotta make sure they’re looked after.
To help shed some light on where is good to travel to, Tripadvisor has announced the most sustainable destinations in the world from its Traveller’s Choice Awards. The online review platform partnered with the Global Destination Sustainability Movement and has looked closely at the sustainability efforts of hotels, restaurants and experiences within the GDSM’s top 100 destinations.
So, which cities are doing the most to minimise the impact of tourism? Well, coming in at number one was the Danish capital of Copenhagen. The city is known for its lovely parks and is practically the European capital for cycling. London has even taken inspo from its commitment to pedestrianising city-centre areas.
In second place it’s Stockholm, and in third it’s Bordeaux. Europe actually claims a whopping eight of the top ten spots on this list, although Oslo, the capital of what is apparently the greenest country in Europe, comes in seventh place.
